meet the interns

Our staff triples this summer! We’re fortunate to have four dedicated and talented interns joining us at Team Tassy fromĀ Occidental College. They’re each working on one of our job training and placement ventures and they’re connected one on one with a family member to accompany them to success. These guys are getting so much done, we can’t wait to share more of their work with you. A short bio and contact info are below. They’d love to hear from you.

We also want to give a special shout out to Occidental College, especially to Valerie Savior, Liselda Fabian, and Courtney Stricklin Burgan for supporting our work throughout the past few years through their InternLA Program. Read more about it here.

Hello! My name is Mika Kato, and I am working as a summer intern for Team Tassy in Los Angeles. I am very excited to be a part of the team and contribute to an organization whose vision and work I resonate very passionately with. I am a rising junior at Occidental College in Los Angeles, and study Global Communities and Social Change, an independent study of International Relations, Psychology, and Sociology. I am from Japan, and spent nine years living in Dubai and Los Angeles. My interests lie in finding ways to empower and heal those vulnerable to various global issues within the sphere of poverty and social inequalities, and aspire to do so through individualized work just as Team Tassy does everyday. I am also a passionate artist and enjoy traveling to various parts of the world. I look forward to working with everyone!

Mika just helped the Giordani’s build their new home. You can learn more about it by reaching out to her at Mika@teamtassy.org.

I’m Cassie and I’m a Junior at Occidental college where I am studying Urban and Environmental Policy. I have strong interest in sustainability and especially its feasibility in low-income communities, which is part of why I connected with the mission of Team Tassy. Originally I’m from Connecticut and I like to spend my free time cooking, doing yoga, or getting outside.

Cassie is working with the Jeunes, Marc Noel’s mother-in-law and her family. She looks forward to hearing from you via her email at Cassie@teamtassy.org.

Tristan Cooper, Occidental College, InternLA

My name is Tristan Cooper and I’m currently a student at Occidental College studying Economics and Diplomacy and World Affairs. While at Occidental, I quickly developed a strong desire to learn about the world around me and understand the root causes of poverty. It didn’t take me long to realize that organizations such as Team Tassy, who approach poverty with a “do whatever it takes” philosophy are often times the ones that are the most successful. After seeing Team Tassy’s philosophy, I was excited to see how much their mission aligns with mine. I stand by the belief that breaking the cycle of poverty is possible when individuals come together with a vision and the desire to do whatever it takes. I’m unbelievably excited to work at Team Tassy and work with families so they can lift themselves out of poverty.

Reach out to Tristan at Tristan@teamtassy.org to learn more about his work here at Team Tassy and what Pascal and Dony are up to this summer.
